WORKING FIRE ON BERRYMAN ROAD

     

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 0829hrs- Just as Engine 1 (with four) cleared from a MVC in the 1100 block of East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike, Bedford Communications alerted Companies 9 (Montvale-1st due), 19 (Shady Grove-2nd due), and 1 (Bedford-RIT) to 1164 Berryman Road for a reported house on fire. With no expected response from the second due company, Engine 1 and Rescue 1 (with four) responded to fill both the second due engine and RIT role. Medic 14-9 (BCoFR) was first to arrive to find a single-story mobile home with heavy fire showing from side Alpha. With six patients suffering from smoke inhalation, command (Chief 9) requested three additional medic units to assist Medic 14-9. E-1 arrived and assumed Fire Attack Group 1 on the interior.  While conducting secondary searches, R-1 located three dogs which were secured by Animal Control. The fire was marked under control at 0859hrs. Units operating: P-9, E-1, T-9, R-1, W-9, M14-9, M-9, M-19, M-14-13, and C-3. E-1 and R-1 were both back in quarters at 1100hrs. Total Company 1 personnel: 10.
